Job-Site Control

Safety and job-site cleanliness are two of Bradley-Barnes' top priorities. Superintendents go through weekly safety inspections and follow OSHA guidelines as applicable. Each employee has been coached to identify and bring to the superintendents' attention any unsafe conditions and/or practices discovered on the job site. All subcontractors are notified by contract to keep their trash and debris cleaned up, leave materials in an organized fashion, and follow OSHA guidelines. Due to the companies emphasis on safety and cleanliness, not only has the company provided a positive working atmosphere, they can boast of a safety modification rating of .78 (December, 1999)

Bradley-Barnes' Safety Program Includes:

  • Regular job site safety inspections
  • Safety orientation for new employees
  • Weekly "toolbox" safety meetings
  • Quarterly safety meetings for field supervisors and lead personnel
  • Written policy for compliance with MSDS (material safety data sheets)
  • Drug testing of injured employees

Being fit for duty is also part of job safety. Each job position has a description of the physical requirements of that position. Employees are given the opportunity to have physical examinations on a yearly basis.

The superintendent conducts weekly progress meetings with all on-site subcontractor representatives to coordinate activities that need to be accomplished during the week. To aid the superintendent and subcontractors in scheduling their work, an overall job schedule is developed for the project and maintained by both the superintendent and project manager during the course of construction.

Subcontracts are written to clearly define the expected scope of work as required by the contract documents. These help protect both the owner, the contractor, and the subcontractor so that everyone is familiar with the interrelated responsibilities.
